Short Bio:

Oana Băluță is an Associate Professor, PhD, at the Faculty of Political Science, SNSPA. She holds a PhD in Political Science (SNSPA) with a dissertation on gender and political interests in contemporary Romania and a Master’s in Gender and Public Policies (SNSPA). Between 2008 and 2024, she was a faculty member at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences, University of Bucharest, where she is currently an affiliated professor.

She has authored, coordinated, and published articles and books on anti-gender campaigns, gender interests and political representation, civic mobilization against gender-based violence, media representations of gender-based violence, work-life balance policies, and the feminist movement in Romania after 1990.

She has been involved in several research projects as an expert or consultant.

Ongoing Projects:

  • Since February 1, 2025: Manager and Principal Investigator for the University of Bucharest in the YOU-DARE project (YOUth Debunking the gendered Arguments of far-Right Extremism), project no. 101178147, HORIZON-CL2-2024-DEMOCRACY-01-05 – Gender roles in extremist movements and their impact on democracy.
  • Since 2024: Member of the Management Committee of COST Action CA23149 – Democratization at Stake? Comparing Anti-Gender Politics in CEE and NME Countries.

Beyond academia, Oana Băluță has over 20 years of civic activism. For eight years, until 2013, she served as the President of the Center for Curriculum Development and Gender Studies: FILIA. She is actively engaged in initiatives supporting women’s rights and gender equality, preventing and combating gender-based violence, and resisting anti-gender policies and campaigns. She publishes opinion pieces and contributes to public discussions on gender equality and democracy.
